Why the Ray P. Authement College of Sciences?

Want to make a difference in this world? Come get a science education from us. Many people don’t understand what this is. Many people watch a TV program such as “Jeopardy”-involving the quick recall of arcane facts and confuse this with education. Quick-what is the valence of sodium? What is the gravitational constant at sea level? What is the derivative of the natural logarithm? The answers to these questions are useful facts. And facts are critical to education, just as bricks are to building. Herbert Spencer said it well when he noted that: “The aim of education is not knowledge but action.” The reason the world craves scientists is that scientists can solve problems. As scientifically trained graduates you will be asked questions like: “How do we stop coastal erosion?” “How can we increase energy supplies without increasing pollution?” “Can you help my sick child?”

If you graduate from our College you will find yourself answering important questions like these. And we are well recognized for our success in these endeavors. The Carnegie Foundation has placed us in the same classification as Auburn, Baylor, and Clemson; while the Princeton Review has named us as one of the top 8% of the Universities in the nation. So if you want to make a difference, come study with us in the College of Sciences.
